Product of the month - The VETTE.

This month’s ‘product of the month’ is... the VETTE. In this blog you will learn more about how this product has been created and also find out more about the Big Monthly Deal!

What’s the story behind the name VETTE?

This practical and chic bag is named after a not only a very good friend but also a mentor of mine. The name VETTE has been taken from her name, Yvette. How to pronounce, it may look vet but the way I pronounced it is V E T I E.

How did come up with this unique design?

I actually came up with the design while with Yvette. We were talking about bum bags and how they are so convenient but how usually they have a sporty feel to them. I decided there and then I was going to make a minimal and chic bag but with all the practicalities of your traditional bum bag. I wanted the bag to have an extra long belt which would allow you to wear the bag in four different ways. It was also important for this bag to stand out against it’s competitors and I believe the strap provides a statement look. Our customers can choose between two different widths for the belt to create a look that best matches their style.

How long does it take to make the VETTE?

The VETTE takes around 6.5 hrs to make, from start to finish. I start by cutting out a front, back and base piece. This is one big piece that then wraps around the curved side pieces. Next, I cut out the belt strap, I attach the buckle to one side and punch the holes into the other. Then I have to attach the two parts of the belt to the back part of the body. The poppers are the next step as they have to be attached to the front part to the body. When doing this, you have to be careful and make sure that they marry up perfectly, otherwise you will have a problem closing the bag. The last part is to stitch the sides to the body piece. When stitching I have to make sure to hold and keep the leather butted up to help give a more defined finish. This is extremely important because the bag is finished with a raw edge, so it can’t be covered up with edge dye. Generally, there is no lining to this product, although sometimes if the leather is thinner, I laminate a lining (usually suede) to the body piece. This is done while flat before all other steps.
