This month we look at Laura Carlin an illustrator and ceramic artist. Laura was born in Glastonbury and studied at Buckinghamshire university before then going on to study at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2004.
Laura has illustrated for many different magazines, books, for branding and also advertising. Laura most famously illustrated children’s book ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes

Laura is also a well established ceramicist selling her work at both The New Craftsman and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Laura has been exhibited around the UK and in Japan.
In 2016 Laura held an exhibit at The House of Illustration featuring 650 tile mural depicting the history of London.

The way that I came across Laura was through her Ceramic work, particularly her ‘Animal Tiles’.
I find her style whimsical and yet textural; I love the serenity and peace I feel when admiring her work. She has a wonderfully distinctive and uniquely engaging style. Laura is able to apply her playful aesthetic onto paper, ceramic and even household items, transforming the mundane.
